It was in 1976 that GEO the new picture of our world first appeared on the German magazine market. It was a huge success from the very beginning. Just five years later, the first special issue of GEO magazine appeared in the shape of GEO SPECIAL. Appropriately enough for a magazine with such broad global perspectives, the first issue of the new magazine chose to look at what many consider the capital of our modern world: New York. Since 1984, building on this highly successful entry onto the market, GEO has appeared six times a year as an independent, monothematic travel magazine. The year 1989 witnessed excitement on the streets of German cities as people rushed to read a new title in the GEO family: GEO SAISON. This multithematic travel magazine appears monthly, with two double issues every year.
